Best Boutique Hotel in Denver:  Curtis Hotel review

The Curtis Hotel wins my vote for the most fun & Best Boutique Hotel in Denver!

When looking for the best boutique hotel in Denver, there are several qualities that you should look for:  Location, Cleanliness, and Quality.  The Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver has all of these qualities and a whole lot of EXTRAS to go with it!

I stayed at the Curtis Hotel in Denver for 2 nights while I walked downtown, toured the sites, and enjoyed the holiday festivities at the Christmas market at the end of the 16th Mall Street in downtown Denver. I did not receive a free room for this stay and the views and opinions are my own.

The Curtis is a Doubletree Hilton Hotel with the quality standard behind the brand name, but it is definitely a boutique hotel too and has that quaint and unique atmosphere all through it.  It is anything but ordinary and the extras and theming throughout the hotel and the rooms go above and beyond a simple wall hanging decor.

Each of the 13 guest room floors as well as the lobby and all the meeting rooms are decked out to match its theme.  It is visible in the hallways as soon as you step out of the elevator.  –and those elevators are far from plain too!  The rooms are also full of artwork, knick-knacks, and whimsical extras like special wallpaper and curtains to match a theme. We had the Jimmy Buffet room on the MUSIC floor –Keep reading for the details and fun photos of the best boutique hotel in Denver!

Let’s continue with the qualities of the perfect hotel for a trip to Denver

Location of Curtis Hotel in Denver

The Curtis Hotel is located right in the center of downtown Denver.  There is no need for a car here!  I simply walked a few minutes and two blocks to find myself on the 16th Street Mall, ready to shop for souvenirs and enjoy the small eateries.  The Curtis Hotel is the perfect location and the best hotel for a downtown Denver vacation.

It is also located across the street from the Denver Performing Arts Complex and down the road from the Denver Convention Center.  The proximity to these entertainment centers gives the Curtis Hotel bonus points for the best hotel in Denver!

Quality and Service at the Curtis Hotel

The bed in the huge Jimmy Buffet hyper-themed room was so incredibly comfortable that I didn’t move or get up all night!  Now, I DID get up at 4:30 am that first day, but I think it still had a lot to do with the comfort of the bed and pillows.  Yes, PILLOWS.  The soft fluffy pillows were plentiful and there were so many I felt stocked for an impending pillow-fight victory! The big, fluffy pillows led to a very restful night’s sleep after a long day of traveling across the country.

Safety at the Curtis Hotel Doubletree during the COVID-19 pandemic

The room was sanitized before my stay and verified by a sanitization sticker across the door.  There were plastic barriers across the reception desk and hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel.  The Curtis Hotel has a Curtis-Clean Initiative that promotes ultra-cleanliness and safety to keep its guests protected.  I did feel very safe during my entire stay at the Curtis Hotel. The room and hotel were very clean.

Extras and Artwork at the Curtis Hotel in Denver

Each floor at the Curtis Hotel has a different theme and there isn’t a dull spot in this hotel. I think I could have walked around for a few hours looking at everything and taking interesting photos of it all. Even the elevators were decks out in fancy theming.

The theming is achieved by wallpaper and decorations, lighting, artwork, and props throughout the hallway.  The whole display on each floor is the work of a masterpiece and that is why The Curtis is on the list from USA Today for the top 10 Best Art Hotels in the USA.  Part of the experience of this hotel is riding the elevator to each floor to admire each artistic composition.  It is an Instagrammer’s delight and a pleasure to anyone that enjoys using an imagination to take a visual journey.

I was staying on the MAD ABOUT MUSIC floor. That hallway was decorated with record players, cassettes, speakers, and album covers. There is one wall plastered from floor to ceiling with poster advertisements from the artists that have performed at Red Rock Amphitheatre –and there were so many of them!

Be sure to make plans for hiking at Red Rocks Colorado as a day trip from your hotel stay in downtown Denver. It is a short drive from the Curtis Hotel and definitely worth a visit.

Everyone finds a favorite floor at the Curtis Hotel among the 13 different themes to choose from. The Fun and Games Floor had a section that was all about Pacman! Yes, I am old enough to have played that video game quite a lot so it was a joy to be immersed in it while I traveled down the hallway of floor #6.

Lucky guests with rooms on floor #13 were staying on the Horror floor. Scary photos adorned the walls trimmed in dead black along the blood-red carpeted hallway. I tiptoed quietly along that hall in order not to wake anything that I did not want to encounter!

Artwork in the Lobby of the Curtis Hotel

The Curtis Hotel has a lobby that is also full of fun themes.  Being from Northeast Ohio, I sure did appreciate the leg lamp in the window of the guest area as a nod to the Christmas Story. The entranceway of the hotel is an old-fashioned travel trailer with a couch cut into an old Volkwagon beetle. The holiday spirit was overflowing as trees were trimmed and lights twinkled to surround the guests with the joy of the season.

Themes in the Curtis Hotel Rooms

My room was the hyper-themed Jimmy Buffet room. It wasn’t simply a few signs on the wall. It was absolutely FULL of theming. From the pillows to the curtains to the wallpaper in the bathroom and the decorations on every shelf, nook & cranny, it was all thoughtfully put together to design the ultimate Jimmy Buffet- themed room.

Dining at the Curtis Hotel

All of the restaurants were closed to dine-in service when I was in Denver during the pandemic.  I was not able to try the signature restaurant and martini bar at the Curtis: the Corner Office.  It is conveniently located right off of the lobby and serves up an American tapas menu with some Asian and Latin American dishes.  I know that I missed out on something good here.  Maybe next time!

Great customer service at the Curtis Hotel in Downtown Denver

Underneath the kaleidoscope of colors in the lobby, the hotel receptionist is in the lobby and always greets the guests with a smile and loves to help with planning a night around downtown Denver.

Best Pet-Friendly Hotel in Denver

Pets are allowed at the Curtis Hotel and they are made to feel just as special as their owners. If you can’t leave your pet at home during your trip to downtown Denver, consider the Curtis Hotel as your best option!

The View at the Curtis Hotel

This should not be the last entry on the list of good qualities about the Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver, but it is the one piece of beautiful artwork that was not designed by commissioned artists. The beauty of the surrounding landscape is visible and right outside your room window. Pull back your curtains, relax in your super comfy themed room, and enjoy the Colorado mountain view.

I love the idea of boutique hotels and this looks really cute and up my alley

Wow! This place looks crazy. I can’t believe how all in they went with their various themes. How fun and great that it’s so centrally located!

We haven’t been to Denver in forever. I think going at Christmas time is a great idea! We’ll put in on our travel list and check out the Curtis Hotel.

I usually stay at the big brand hotels when I’m in Denver so this is a breath of fresh air! Will save it for the next time I’m there.

We love visiting Denver during their annual beer fest and hated where we stayed last time around…so this is very helpful!

I love finding unique hotels to stay at and this one looks incredible. I love the decor of the rooms!

Such A great post!!
